Since 1921

You may or may not remember a 2011 post of mine about a beloved New Orleans staple:

Sadly, early yesterday morning a 5-alarm fire destroyed the Hubig's Pies facility at 2417 Dauphine St. in New Orleans.

Sunrise revealed total destruction of the place where for nearly a century bakers prepared millions of the fried fruit pies popular with generations of New Orleanians. Last year, the factory churned out as many as 28,000 pies a day.
As news of the fire spread, residents flocked to stores and left shelves nearly barren of the treats. And before firefighters could even declare the fire under control, the owners vowed: "We'll be back."

Watching the Team ... Figuratively

A newly-hung banner of suspended head coach Sean Payton glares down from the wall of the Saints indoor practice facility, reminding players to do their jobs during practice at Saints camp on Friday, July 27, 2012.

The Fresh Market

I'm so excited this is finally open!!!

The Fresh Market, a North Carolina-based chain of upscale groceries founded in 1982 that now has 119 locations, will open its St. Charles Avenue location at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the former Bultman funeral home that was a Borders book store for several years after Hurricane Katrina.
The elevator to the 2nd floor - kind 'a cool

The produce section features 400 fresh fruits and vegetables with signs that mark “local” items from within 100 miles, and “regional” items from within 300 miles.
The have a wonderful deli and bakery section.
And of course Gelato!!! Can't wait to head back soon.

Crescent City Farmers Market

Wake up to the best of the season's harvest every Saturday morning, when the Crescent City Farmers Market takes up residence in New Orleans' historic Warehouse District!

Come for the food, and stick around for great entertainment by local musicians, cooking demonstrations, or just to shoot the breeze with friends and the farmers, chefs and fishers who put food on the city's tables.

The Saturday Market runs year-round from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the corner of Magazine Street and Girod Street. If it rains, look for them inside the big building adjacent to the parking lot.

I tried to Avocado Creme Popsicle, which was surprisingly good on a warm humid morning!

I was very tempted to get some purple basil and make some homemade pesto, but instead opted for cheddar cheese  to go with yellow squash.
And, of course I couldn't leave without some fresh peaches (and homemade tamales -not pictured-)

The Who Dat Nation can finally breathe.

The agreement is a five-year, $100 million contract that all sides concur will guarantee Drew Brees an NFL-record $60 million, including a first-year take in 2012 of $40 million, making the 33-year-old quarterback the highest-paid player in NFL history.
