Hopper's Carte des Vins

Amie and I had our last Wednesday (month long!) wine tasting class tonight at Carte des Vins.
I'm a bit sad since enjoying wine with a group of fellow wine lovers for over 1 1/2 hours on a Wednesday night was always a perk of the week to look forward to. Sadly our French wine experience is over, so perhaps they'll host a Spanish or Italian wine tasting class next ... let's hope soon!

Old New Olreans Rum - Distillery Tour

Celebration Distillation offers daily tours and tastings at their distillery.
The tour is $10 per person and lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Our tours offer an intimate, detailed look at the distillation process from beginning to end. Our tours tell the story of our unique company and our survival after Hurricane Katrina.
All of our tours begin with an Old New Orleans Rum cocktail and conclude with tasting of all 4 products. Become a connoisseur as you experience the subtle flavors of our distinctive rums.

Happy Spring

The sidewalk in front of my place in NOLA has a crack that gross moss throughout the year and on the first day of Spring . . . I saw it was growing more that just moss --- now I have a little blue flower as well, so cute!

Flexitarianism

Part-time at least!!
Exactly one month ago, I took the plunge into being a Vegan (part time, Monday through Friday with the occasional Saturday) and I have to say . . . it's going smoothly!! I feel great and I've lost 10 pounds without feeling like I'm on a diet or depriving myself of any of my favorite foods. I've been cooking in a lot, but still making many of my usually dishes (just tweaked with Vegan recipes). Plus, it feels nice to know I'm getting lots of health benefits by being a vegan and I think I'll keep it up! I know -- I know . . . many people are saying, "WHY Part-Time VEGAN?" but honestly, I've always ate lots of fruits, soy milk, vegetables, nuts, hummus, barbecued tempeh and veggie burgers with guacamole. But I sometimes still like to indulge in a pork chop or a friend's pot roast. So, I believe that cutting back on excessive amounts of meat & dairy, rather than abstaining completely, may be a practical compromise that benefits my body and my environment . . . it gives me the benefits of a vegan diet without having to follow the strict rules -- Win Win! Don't think a Vegan can eat well? A-hem, Mom - I'm looking at you ;) Check out some of my favorite Vegan websites:
